LABORIE, SAINT LUCIA – The Laborie Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. (LCCU) ignited the passion for basketball in “the Lab” with the thrilling conclusion of the LCCU Lambert and Paul Championship Classic on Sunday, August 24, 2025. Held at the Laborie Multipurpose Court, the tournament delivered on its promise to revitalize the sport in the community. After a spectacular run of intense games, Cavaliers emerged as the undisputed champions, taking home the grand prize of $1500.
The tournament was a celebration of local talent and community spirit. It featured four fierce competitors—Cavaliers, NAPA Giants, South Stars, and Flamboyants—with their names originating from former dominant basketball clubs in the Laborie community. The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors, including the Laborie Co-operative Credit Union, Miguel Lambert, and Matthew Paul.
Tournament Highlights
The action-packed first round set a high bar for the competition. Cavaliers asserted their dominance early, achieving a perfect record. NAPA Giants were hot on their heels, securing an impressive two victories. Flamboyants finished the round with a single win, while South Stars fought hard but were unable to clinch a victory.
The stakes were raised in the Playoffs, with every team battling fiercely to stay in the running. The Flamboyants team was ousted early, receiving a quick loss to NAPA Giants 20-8, and a crushing defeat to South Stars in their second meeting, 20-19. NAPA Giants delivered a stunning upset in a high-octane matchup, defeating Cavaliers, 20-17.
The intense competition saw Cavaliers fight their way through the losers’ bracket to secure a spot in the finals, defeating South Stars, 20-13, in a hard-fought game to decide the third place.
The stage was set for a climactic showdown between NAPA Giants and Cavaliers for the championship title. In a game played to 30 points, Cavaliers showcased a masterful display of teamwork and skill. They dominated the court, overpowering NAPA Giants with an unstoppable offense and a fortified defense to claim the championship with a final score of 32-10.
